Beat The Office Bug and Stay Well This Season

Are you sick and tired of being unwell? Worried about missing out from being cooped up in bed this season?

While sometimes you just can’t avoid a cold, there are things you can do to keep as healthy as possible and avoid the office bug. Exercising and getting enough sleep are obviously important, but our favourite tip? Eating more!

Filling your plate with seasonal fresh produce - like carrot, zucchini and radish -  and adding ingredients like garlic and ginger, can give your immune system that extra boost. So, make the markets a weekly event, and try your hand at creating nutrient-packed warming soups and smoothies.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t indulge! If you’re eating out, just try adding a side to squeeze those extra vitamins in to your day – like our prosciutto & rocket salad with fresh fig. Or, head out for breakfast and share a huge fruit platter with friends.

Filling your plate has never been so good for you!

Manly Heats Up For Autumn

The cooler months may mean fewer tourists and more layers, but you’d be wrong to think Manly’s closed for business this Autumn. On the contrary, Manly (and Sydney) has a lot to offer, even if it’s wetsuit weather.

Not only does the Bureau of Meteorology think this autumn will be dryer and warmer than usual (see here if you think it’s too good to be true!), but any drop in the mercury will make staying active and seeing the best of the Beaches that much more enjoyable.

It’s the perfect time to lace up the runners and start training for the Manly Fun Run (or Rotary Fun Run and Walk), which will be held on the 21 May. There’s 2, 5 and 10km options to work towards – without having to train at the crack of dawn to beat the heat!

For those of you less so inclined, just remember: while there’ll be fewer visitors to our shores, the skies and the water will be just as blue this autumn, making autumn the perfect time to relax and enjoy Manly.

To Market, To Market: A quick guide to Manly’s market scene

Welcome to Manly! Want to live like a real local? Just moved in and looking for fresh activities for your week? If you love new flavours and fresh food like we do, you’ll love exploring all the food and produce markets that call Manly home.

Every Friday evening at Gilbert Park, there’s the World Food Markets – where you can pick and choose from a host of international flavours. From Dutch pancakes to French crepes and Turkish gozleme, there’s something for every after-work craving. Dance to the live music on offer every week, or bring a blanket and make it a family affair, as it’s a smoke- and alcohol-free event. For more info, click here – but make sure to visit before the last Friday for this year, March 31st!

If you’d rather cook your own food, then head to the Manly Fresh Produce market, Wednesdays and Sundays from 8am-2pm at Manly Plaza on Short St. We think our antipasto board is something special, but if you want to recreate it at home, the Fresh Produce Market has all the essentials. You can get to know your local producers and grab some fresh flowers on your way home – a true local experience.

Food aside, there’s Manly Market Place – open every Saturday and Sunday from 9am-5pm and inspiring with the latest local design, fashion and giftware.

This is just a small taste of Manly’s thriving market scene, but a great place to start if you want that local experience. See you at the markets!

KEEP MANLY BEAUTIFUL: YOUR CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

If you love Manly and the Northern Beaches as much as we do, you’ll know how frustrating it is seeing stray bottles, takeaway containers and plastic bags taking up space on the shoreline.

We understand the disappointment of sinking your feet into the sand, only to feel a cigarette butt between your toes; of seeing a neatly stacked pile of fish and chip boxes left on the grass. We live on the most beautiful stretch of coast in the world – why can’t people walk a few more metres to the bin to try and keep it that way?

Well, Clean Up Australia Day is around the corner, and while we certainly encourage picking up litter whenever you see it, this will be your chance to really get stuck in and make a huge impact on Manly’s beaches.

Sunday March 5th is the day, so go ahead and register as a volunteer here. If you’re a local business like us, your time to shine is Tuesday February 28th and you can sign up here.

Keep Manly beautiful, and get involved this Clean Up Australia Day. We’ll see you there!

Summer seafood at your doorstep

When it comes to enjoying the warmer months, we all know we’re absolutely spoilt here on the Northern Beaches – we’ve got the best of everything. After taking in a day of the bright skies and great surf, tucking into some fresh seafood is the obvious next step.

Start with some of our Atlantic salmon carpaccio or Hiramasa kingfish sashimi. Next, how about a grilled whole lemon sole almondine served with crisp prosciutto & black olives?

The Pantry has your seafood craving covered this summer...

Keep your resolutions with a summer fruit plate and scrambled eggs on sourdough with roasted cherry tomatoes – accompanied by a flat white, of course.
