SEASONAL SPOTLIGHT: PUMPKIN

Truth be told, every season is pumpkin season.  Although in September, this modest fruit is your go to when it comes to injecting earthy, yet delicately sweet flavours into a number of nourishing dishes.

Loaded with fibre, antioxidants and vitamin c, the grade A gourd can be snuck into any meal really, whether it’s the seeds, flesh, or as a healthy substitute for butter or oil. It is of course, a stand out contributor to soups for those cooler days, but can just as easily perk up a leafy salad as those temperatures rise.

We are loving this healthy, quick warm pumpkin and goats cheese salad from delicious. online – the perfect side for your next Sunday lunch.

You’ll notice that we have featured the flavoursome pumpkin in our polenta crusted goats cheese gnocchi – for those who like to indulge a little this dish is a real crowd pleaser!

Spring has sprung!

Down at the Manly corso we’re getting the feeling that something is a little different. The hemlines are shortening, the tans are showing and the locals are grinning. You know what that means…spring is here!

This also means it’s time to lighten up those lunches and take your foodspiration from the sea! Enjoy the warmer days with our Crispy Skin Atlantic Salmon. Why not pair it with a glass of chilled rose’ and perch yourself on one of our window seats? Now we’re talking.

SEASONAL SPOTLIGHT: BEETROOT

With beetroot season in full swing, there's plenty to be excited about.

Rich in health-boosting ingredients, the humble beetroot is a valuable and versatile vegetable. It's perfect raw, grated through salads, on burgers and sandwiches, and even enjoyed as a dip. Our personal fav is this easy-to-prepare beetroot dip from delicious. online - a deadset winner for your next winter warmer...

There's no denying we're big fans of the beet in The Pantry Manly kitchen - particularly for it's vibrant colours and sweet, earthy flavours. Beetroot is the supreme support act of the foodie world, and you'll find it compliments a number of our dishes on the menu - our pick is the mushroom and beetroot bruschetta!

Exciting new winter warmers

Love it or hate it, this cool change we’ve been having has been inspirational for the team here at The Pantry. We’ve been busy in the kitchen creating some delicious new dishes to warm you up, and they’ve turned out to be some of our favourite ever!

One of the great new tapas on offer is an indulgent baked camembert with confit garlic and rosemary. If you’d prefer a pâté, the new wild boar and duck terrine ‘en croûte’ with quince marmalade is also a stand-out. And don’t worry, both come with a healthy serving of French baguette!

After something more substantial? For the heartiest of winter meals, we’ve put our twist on a classic and added a braised Hunter Valley beef brisket with mashed potato, caramelised onion and wild rocket.

Not to be outdone, our seafood menu has had a total revamp. You’ll be toasty warm in no time after trying our chargrilled king prawn soup with fresh market fish, tomatoes, garlic and fresh herbs – topped with a good dose of saffron and chilli to really get the blood pumping.

Winter Art & Culture at Manly

OK, so we know a Sydney winter isn’t really ‘winter’ – our British backpacker friends never stop reminding us! But that doesn’t mean we don’t get cold. Luckily for us Manly folk, there are some great indoor activities coming up for those chillier days!

Firstly, we’re excited about the return of the Guringai Festival from May 26th – July 9th - a celebration of Aboriginal culture and heritage that takes place across various venues in Northern Sydney. This year’s theme is ‘Connection’, and all ages are invited to connect and participate in the festival - locally, the Manly Art Gallery & Museum is putting on an exhibition by the Sharing Stories Foundation, with photography by Liz Thompson.

Also at the Gallery until the 9th of July is Chuck Bradley’s Instrumental – a photographic glimpse into the tools of the trade of some of Australia’s most celebrated musicians.

Or, if you want to step up to the plate and make your own art, why not try a life drawing class? The Gallery runs studios every second Tuesday – we’re game if you are!

Taste of Manly is almost here...

It’s almost that time of year again! Taste of Manly is fast approaching, and while we’ll be watching from the sidelines this year, we’re so excited for another weekend of incredible food, drinks, music and vibes in our beloved Manly.

The beach front and Corso will be brimming with craft beer and cider, as well as tasty drops from international and Australian wineries giving cellar door experiences. Some of our favourite neighbourhood eateries will be there dishing up great local cuisine and doing the Beaches proud – think Hugo’s, Daniel San and Mex & Co. There’s so much choice, it can get overwhelming – so grab a glass of something delicious and enjoy some local groove, rock and reggae talent while you make up your mind.

Entry is free for this weekend of feasting, which kicks off at 11.30 and finishes at 5pm Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May.

The Pantry will be open business as usual over the Taste weekend, so if you want to rest your weary legs (and indulge some more!) after a lap of the festival, we’ll see you then!
